Sunday 9th September - Briare

Misty morning.
Received an early call from Elizabeth who with a anguished voice explained how Pinkle Purr (the kitten she had agreed to look after) had been fighting with her other 5 cats and she just couldn't look after it anymore. So we agreed to take it back until Tuesday when it will go to Paris to stay with Mark, who seemed to get along with it. (It attacks me and is untouchable and also strikes out at you if you go near it)
Elizabeth has also kindly offered to take us up to Paris on Tuesday for the day as she is going to see the Cezanne and Pissarro exhibition at the Musee d'Orsay and will call Mark to see if he can get a couple of tickets for us as well.
What ever the out come its all good.
Went into Rongy this afternoon and chatted to Elizabeth who was the local volunteer to run the tourist office for the day. She set us up with all sorts of info as where to go, what to see and told us all about next weekend when all the Chateaus, castles etc are open free to everyone.
We then decided to drive into Briare to see the Canal de Briare and look at the town centre. On route as we drove over the small bridge in Ouzouer sur Trezee Beatrice spotted standing on a barge the Englishman we met in the restaurant in Gien the other day(who took our photo for us) We stopped the car and called over to him, taking him by surprise, he then recognized us as the Aussies. He said he was going up to Rogny des 7 Ecluses tomorrow and he invited us to come down and visit him.
What an interesting place this is, a canal bridge over another canal and a river and we walked across from one side to the other and then enjoyed a great cup of coffee and chocolate cakes. Hope you can see this on the photos however read the web site and you too can find out all about it. This area is also famous for its mosaics. Drove home through the country side as usual, all the fields are under cultivation here, plenty of corn being grown and not a cow, sheep etc in sight. Pigs hidden away in the farm house pens maybe and that's it. Typical of this area we are told. Hope to go to some vineyards next week which will take us out by 50 or 60 klms from our home.
Home again to enjoy the wonderful meal that Beatrice made and the wonderful Bordeaux that I bought in the village shop!
