Saturday 8th September - At Home

A beautiful day, blue sky and much warmer.
Received a morning phone call from Monique ,who introduced herself as our neighbour and lives at #2, (the only other English speaking person in our little hamlet) inviting us to evening drinks at 7pm.
Spent the morning doing household chores etc and watering the garden (No water restrictions here and they are on town water)
After lunch drove into Rogny to buy bread and milk.Took a walk by the canal looking at all the different barges and boats, mainly French and the others from across the channel. Chatted to a few people in French and English, behaving just like a local!(or so we think)
Walked up to the local church, looks very old being propped up with wooden supports but still used once a month as the they rotate the services around the local area.Unfortunately it was closed today so we missed out.
Home again for a bit of a rest. (See really starting to behave like a local)
At 7pm we walked round to meet Monique and her partner Jean-Michel who both work and live in Paris during the week and only come down to their house on most weekends. He is a Professor of Philosophy at the Sorbonne and Monique we believe is a translator. Spent a very happy couple of hours drinking half tumblers of whiskey (as Jean-Michel does) and Beatrice and Monique white wine with cheeses, radishes and an introduction to a Gourjere which is a warmed up cheesed filled puffed pastry and very nice to! Sat there laughing and talking whilst watching the red glow of the sunset in the distance, dipping down below the hedges of the farm fields that surround us, on what had been a beautiful warm sunny day.
Managed to find our way home, checked on the Rugby results and was pleased to see that Australia was through to the next round by defeating Japan. Of course the mood here isn't too good with France losing to the Argentines! Lets hope they can beat Ireland and stay in the competition otherwise its going to be a real anti climax for France and also being the host country.
Went to bed tired after another enjoyable day in France.
